"The Intelligent Systems Laboratory" was established in 1996 – with major financial support from the Turkish State Planning Agency. Since then, its funding has extended to include B.U., TUBITAK and various Turkish industrial companies. The laboratory aims to design and realize automation systems for a wide spectrum of applications ranging from automated inspection to robotics. The laboratory is unique in respect to the interdisciplinary nature of the research conducted. The projects usually involve hardware (mechanical and electronics), software (digital signal processing, control and graphical user interfaces) and theoretical (signal processing and control) aspects. The projects have collaborations with other laboratories from various disciplines such as artificial intelligence, control, psychology and very recently computational molecular biology as well as manufacturing companies in the Turkish industry. The projects are conducted as part of MS or Ph.D. theses. In addition, the lab admits a select group of students – who depending on their skills and knowledge, either work on independent projects or assist graduate students for specific parts of their work.
The ongoing projects can be roughly categorized into the following categories:
- Attentive vision
- The design and development of mobile robot prototypes aimed at specific applications,
- Event-driven robot control
- Automated industrial inspection
- Remote operation, data access and control
- Design and development of electronic cards
In the projects part in this site, the ongoing projects are described briefly.
